As we progress as surfers, we develop our own favorite types and styles of wax for our boards. The wax is really important for balance and grip and it is hard to surf without it. Of course, many popular and widely sold waxes are made from petrochemicals. Ultimately, these seep into the water and can be very harmful to the ocean ecosystem and can also pollute beaches. There are some environmentally friendly alternatives which use more organic ingredients. Although surf wax seems like it has a small impact on the ecosystem, when you start to imagine how many boxes of wax you go through in a year, you begin to see the potential damage toxic waxes cause.
